The former partner of Peruvian dancer Angye Zapata was fatally shot in Bellavista, Callao, on Tuesday night, according to reports. Jean Paul Guerrero Rebaza, 43, was attacked by two individuals on a motorcycle as he exited a condominium building.
The shooting occurred around 8:10 p.m. On the 58th block of Alfredo Benavides Avenue. Witnesses said Guerrero Rebaza attempted to flee the attackers, even trying to enter a nearby store for safety, but was pursued and shot multiple times. The brazen attack underscores the ongoing issue of violence in the Lima metropolitan area.

Guerrero Rebaza’s name had previously surfaced in connection to dancer Angye Zapata, but he also had a history with law enforcement. Police reports indicate he was involved in two separate family disputes in Callao in 2015 and 2017, involving gunfire and even a grenade.
According to a 2017 police report, Guerrero allegedly shot José Quispe Herrera, who was hospitalized with two gunshot wounds to the abdomen. He was also related to Jean Paolo Avilés, a prisoner affiliated with the ‘Los Malditos de Tarapacá’ gang.

Authorities found 14 shell casings at the scene, indicating the intensity of the attack. Guerrero Rebaza was initially found alive by security personnel and transported to Alberto Leonardo Barton Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
In addition to the prior incidents, Guerrero Rebaza had previous encounters with police, including a 2017 case involving a stolen cell phone and a 2022 incident where he was allegedly driving under the influence. However, he had no recent criminal complaints filed against him in the past seven years.
