Norwegian singer and actress Anna-Lisa Kumoji is engaged to be married, she revealed on Instagram Tuesday.
Kumoji, 36, shared the news that her boyfriend, Bright Azasu, proposed to her although she was visiting him in his home country of Ghana late last year.
“I was completely shocked, because I actually thought it was going to happen,” Kumoji told TV 2. “We’ve been together for a few years now. I just had a feeling that ‘Here’s the year he’s going to propose.’ But I thought it would be during a waterfall hike. He surprised me!”
Azasu chose the final moments of the year to pop the question. “It was even smarter to do it on New Year’s Eve,” Kumoji said. “Then we could just go to the roof, and it felt like all the fireworks were for us.”
“How does it feel to be engaged?”
“It’s absolutely fantastic,” she replied. “He’s a very warm guy. A lot of people ask, ‘Is he super macho?’ since he is a marine. But he’s very warm.”
Kumoji told TV 2 that a long-distance relationship isn’t easy, but she travels to Ghana as often as she can.
As for the wedding, they need to wait and see what the bureaucracy allows before setting a date.
“I don’t know if I should say that so UDI sees it here. But ideally, he’d come to Norway as soon as possible so we can get married this summer. But that depends on UDI, of course. They’re very strict, and it takes time to process. I reckon I read that it could take up to six months to get an answer.”
Kumoji, who currently appears on the TV 2 program “Kompani Lauritzen,” is now looking forward to a new chapter in her life.
“I want to continue as an artist, but I’m ready to start a family and begin a new phase of my life,” she told TV 2.
