Apple’s next MacBook is likely to be called the “MacBook Neo,” according to a listing that briefly appeared on the company’s website Tuesday evening. The listing was part of a list of regulatory documents for the European Union and United Kingdom. The listing, first reported by MacRumors, was quickly removed. It linked to an EU Declaration of Conformity (copy on Scribd) describing a “Laptop Computer” running “MAC OS.” The document was signed by a Senior Engineering Manager who appears to be based in London and has been with the company for 14 years, according to LinkedIn.

A model number was also listed: A3404. Apple has never used the “Neo” designation before, suggesting a fresh approach with this latest, more affordable entry-level machine. This potential new line signals Apple’s intent to broaden its laptop offerings and appeal to a wider range of consumers.

The hardware is reportedly expected to cost significantly less than $1000 USD and expand Apple’s notebook lineup to the lower end. Rumors about such a device have circulated since last summer. The idea is reportedly to revive the 12-inch MacBook, albeit slightly larger (12.9 inches instead of 12) and designed as a budget-friendly option. Reports suggest vibrant colors are planned, including green, yellow, blue and potentially pink.

Alongside the Declaration of Conformity, which surfaced among listings for the recently announced 2025 Macs, additional hardware details have emerged. The device is expected to include two USB-C ports and MagSafe charging, potentially with a color-matched charging cable. Whether Apple will remove the power adapter in Europe, as it has in other regions, remains unclear but is considered likely.

The Neo is also expected to support Wi-Fi 7, but not through Apple’s N1 chip, instead utilizing a Mediatek component that also handles Bluetooth connectivity. The system on a chip (SoC) is likely to be a more affordable iPhone chip, either the A18 Pro from the iPhone 16 Pro or the A19 Pro from the iPhone 17 Pro. Apple is expected to unveil the device this afternoon, European time. The company has also invited select influencers and press representatives to an “Apple Experience” in London, New York, and Shanghai today. On Tuesday, the MacBook Pro M5 Max and M5 Pro, the MacBook Air M5, and new displays were presented, along with the iPad Air M4 and iPhone 17e.
