Apple has unveiled its next-generation professional display, the Studio Display XDR, designed to deliver a high-fidelity visual experience for content creators, designers, and professionals in film and animation.

Announced on March 3, 2026, as part of an update to the Studio Display lineup, the Studio Display XDR represents a significant leap forward in XDR technology. It combines a 27-inch 5K Retina XDR display, a mini-LED lighting system, and refresh rates up to 120Hz.

The monitor is engineered to support professional workflows such as HDR video editing, graphic design, and 3D rendering with exceptional precision. The Studio Display XDR features a 27-inch Retina XDR 5K panel with a resolution of 5120 x 2880 pixels, delivering incredibly sharp and detailed imagery.
The mini-LED backlight system is equipped with 2,304 local dimming zones, enabling extreme contrast and more accurate color reproduction. The display can achieve brightness levels up to 1,000 nits for SDR content and peak HDR brightness of 2,000 nits, alongside a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

This wide dynamic range allows for more realistic HDR visuals, from deep shadows to bright highlights. For the first time in the Studio Display family, Apple is introducing refresh rates up to 120Hz paired with Adaptive Sync technology.

This feature dynamically adjusts the frame rate to produce smoother motion, particularly when displaying video, animations, or complex graphics. The Studio Display XDR also supports wide color gamuts such as P3 and Adobe RGB.

This support provides the high color accuracy required by creative professionals in fields like photography, film production, and printing. The monitor also includes a 12MP Center Stage camera, a studio-quality three-microphone system, and six speakers with Spatial Audio support for a more immersive communication and multimedia experience.

On the connectivity front, the Studio Display XDR utilizes Thunderbolt 5, providing high bandwidth for faster and more stable connections to Mac devices and other accessories.

Pre-orders begin on March 4, 2026, with product availability in stores and from authorized resellers starting on March 11, 2026. The Studio Display XDR replaces the Pro Display XDR in Apple’s monitor portfolio and is offered with a variety of glass options and adjustable stand choices.
