Egypt is advocating for a stronger, unified Arab response to escalating regional tensions, with officials calling for the activation of a joint defense treaty and the formation of a collective Arab military force.

Minister of State for Information Diaa Rashwan emphasized that Arab nations have the right to defend themselves amid increasing instability in the region. He highlighted the importance of revitalizing the Joint Arab Defense Treaty, originally signed nearly seven decades ago, as a framework for enhanced security cooperation.

“Cairo supports the concept of Arab national security and is making continuous efforts to de-escalate tensions in the area,” Rashwan said. The call for a unified defense posture comes as regional conflicts, including the events of October 7th and the ongoing war, underscore the demand for a more robust Arab security structure.

Rashwan stressed that pursuing a joint Arab force does not signal a desire for isolation, but rather aims to bolster the Arab world’s ability to protect its security and stability. He noted that the existing Joint Arab Defense Treaty provides a foundation upon which to build, according to reports.

The push for greater Arab cooperation reflects growing concerns about regional security challenges and a desire to proactively address potential threats. Rashwan’s statements suggest a renewed focus on collective security within the Arab world.
