Police established several checkpoints around the scene after the Sunday night killing.
Here’s where the suspect was stopped.
– “He was in one of the cars stopped at the checkpoints,” prosecutor Inger Lise Høyland told NRK.
The man in his 20s was found outside his home in Arna on Sunday evening. Police who responded to the violent incident arrived on scene within 18 minutes.
Høyland said investigators have examined both the suspect’s home and his vehicle, as well as other locations the suspect may have visited after the crime.
– “It’s crucial to inspect the transport the suspect used right after a violent act. There could be traces of the victim in the car,” she explained.

Police have not disclosed a motive for the killing.
– “We are still investigating. We are questioning the suspect and cross‑checking that information with other evidence,” Høyland said.
Høyland declined to comment on the weapon used, whether it has been seized, or if the attack appeared pre‑planned or impulsive.
Police have received a preliminary autopsy report but have withheld the cause of death.

Police are seeking tips and say observations within the highlighted area on the map are especially valuable.

Investigators are mapping the relationship between the two men. Both arrived in Norway from Afghanistan in 2021 and were part of the same Afghan special‑forces unit, CRU222, which collaborated with Norwegian special forces on counter‑terrorism missions.
– “Their shared history is a focus of the investigation,” Høyland confirmed.

Denies guilt
Police went more than three days without locating a suspect before the man in his 30s was charged and taken into custody on Wednesday evening at the Bergen police station.
– “He came in to review a prior interview. After that, he was taken into custody,” Høyland told NRK.
The suspect is being held for four weeks under letter‑ and visit‑control, but he continues to deny responsibility for the killing.
Prosecutors had requested four weeks of full isolation and a ban on letters and visits. The court rejected that request.
The court found no basis for isolation or a media ban.
Police are exercising extreme caution in public statements because the suspect can monitor media coverage.

Police examined the suspect’s residence on Thursday night. The investigation of the home has now concluded, police said.
