For driving simulation enthusiasts, the line between virtual track and open road is blurring. Kunos Simulazioni’s early access title, Assetto Corsa EVO, is poised to add a significant feature with the forthcoming Free Roam mode. The update will center around a detailed recreation of the Nürburgring and its surrounding German Eifel region, offering players a 1,600 square kilometer landscape to explore beyond competitive racing.

Racing simulation fans are gearing up for a major expansion to Assetto Corsa EVO, the early access title from Kunos Simulazioni. Developers have announced the upcoming release of a highly anticipated Free Roam mode, centered around the iconic Nürburgring and the surrounding Eifel region of Germany.

A newly released official trailer showcases the shift from traditional track racing to open-world exploration, allowing players to freely navigate public roads, forest paths, and city streets across a sprawling 1,600 square kilometer area. The Free Roam mode is slated to become available as part of the Early Access program later this year, promising a comprehensive simulation experience for driving enthusiasts.

Open-world driving isn’t new to the Assetto Corsa franchise. While Assetto Corsa: Competizione focused exclusively on professional track racing, the original Assetto Corsa gained popularity thanks to its extensive modding capabilities, attracting players who wanted a more realistic driving model combined with the freedom of open-world traffic.

Currently in version 0.4, EVO presently offers only track racing. However, the addition of Free Roam is expected to transform the simulator into a significantly expanded experience. Kunos Simulazioni acknowledges that the game still has a long development road ahead, but this update represents the largest content milestone to date. This expansion underscores the growing demand for immersive and realistic driving simulations that blend the precision of track racing with the freedom of open-world exploration.
