ASUS has unveiled a specialized edition of its ProArt PX13 convertible laptop, co-developed with GoPro, designed to streamline workflows for content creators working with action camera footage. The launch comes as the integration of artificial intelligence and efficient cloud data transfer develop into increasingly important selling points in the laptop market.
Software Integration and GoPro Workflow
The core innovation of this edition isn’t necessarily in its components, but in how the laptop interacts with GoPro capture equipment. The PX13 integrates the StoryCube application, providing direct access to the GoPro Cloud. For users shooting 360° video, a dedicated GoPro Hotkey instantly launches the dedicated player, eliminating menu navigation during on-location editing. The package also includes a 12-month subscription to the Premium+ service.
Performance Under the Hood: Ryzen AI and 128GB RAM
The configuration available features the new AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, equipped with a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of 50 TOPS. This unit handles on-device AI tasks, such as image noise reduction and automated material sorting through facial and object recognition within StoryCube.
Notably, the laptop is equipped with 128 GB of LPDDR5X unified memory. For a 1.39 kg laptop, this amount of RAM is unusual and targets the 4K or 5K multi-layer video editing segment.
Build and Display Quality
The display remains a strength of the ProArt series: a 13.3-inch 3K OLED (Lumina OLED) panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio. As a convertible laptop, the 360° hinge allows for tablet mode, useful for quick stylus corrections or on-location monitoring. MIL-STD-810H military certification suggests the device should withstand vibrations and dust, conditions common in outdoor shoots.
Competition is Fierce in This Segment
While the partnership with GoPro is unique, the PX13 competes with other high-performance ultraportables, such as the Dell XPS 13, which also relies on Snapdragon or next-generation Intel architecture for efficiency and AI. These alternatives offer a more minimalist design but lack the 360° hinge versatility or creator-focused ports.
Another alternative, and potentially more suitable for some, is the 14-inch MacBook Pro, which remains the benchmark for power efficiency and performance in video editing. However, it lacks a touchscreen and the flexibility of tablet mode, and is limited to the macOS operating system, which has a different workflow for GoPro files.
Availability and Price in Romania
The limited edition is available on the official ASUS website for approximately 16,000 lei. This price reflects the limited edition status and the maximum RAM configuration, positioning it clearly in the niche professional equipment category.
