Kontou, also a musician and composer, draws on her life as a pansexual woman, her Greek heritage, and her experiences adjusting to life in Vienna for her material. “I love Stand Up Comedy for so many reasons. I have always loved it as an art form, I love that it makes people laugh and how it connects people. And I love the immediate connection that I as a performer have with the audience,” she shared. Her recent set at the FM4 Happy Hour touched on the challenges of having her name mispronounced and the nuances of discrimination faced by people from Greece.

The comedian began performing just 18 months ago as part of her doctoral studies and has already garnered recognition, including the “Austria’s Best Fresh Comedian of the Year” award in November 2025. This success highlights the growing platform for emerging comedic talent in Austria.

On April 21, Kontou will present “A different kind of heartbreak” at the “minciospace_” in Vienna, a performance that combines storytelling, experimental songwriting, and stand-up comedy. Fans can uncover more information about upcoming performances on her Instagram channel.

Kontou’s work as a composer has also been widely recognized, with numerous commissions and performances at festivals across Europe, including Switzerland, Norway, Italy, the UK, and Germany.
