Syrian Authorities Arrest Suspects Following Attack on UAE Embassy in Damascus
Authorities in Damascus have apprehended several individuals suspected of taking part in an incursion and acts of sabotage targeting the United Arab Emirates embassy and the residence of its mission head.
The incident, which sparked widespread international condemnation, occurred as pro-Palestine protests targeted the diplomatic facility. The UAE has formally condemned the protests that led to the attack, highlighting a breach of diplomatic security in the Syrian capital.
The diplomatic fallout was immediate, with several regional powers voicing their disapproval. The Kuwaiti Council of Ministers issued a statement condemning the riots and the assaults directed at the embassy and the mission head’s headquarters. Similarly, Saudi Arabia and Egypt also commented on the attempt to sabotage the UAE’s diplomatic presence in Damascus.
Within Syria, the Syrian Business Council denounced the vandalism, describing the actions against the mission as acts of sabotage.
The Syrian Ministry of Interior has moved quickly to address the security breach, with reports confirming that the department has arrested two individuals involved in the attack. Syrian officials have alleged that the perpetrators of the assault were linked to the “former regime.”
This incident highlights the precarious nature of diplomatic security in the region, where political protests can rapidly escalate into targeted attacks on sovereign missions.
