Nyon, Switzerland – A unique retail concept is gaining traction in the Swiss market, as evidenced by the success of Attitude Thrift, a thrift store located just a short walk from the Nyon train station. The store, which operates on a donation-based model, is owned and operated by Marlo and Viviane, two lifelong friends who took over the business in the summer of 2023.
The pair, aged 28, brought a strong ecological focus to the existing business. “We accepted, then we reappropriated the project with, as a common thread, a strong sensitivity to ecology,” Marlo explained. This commitment to sustainability is a key differentiator in a retail landscape increasingly focused on responsible consumption.
Attitude Thrift’s location, situated in a basement space with distinctive pink walls and industrial piping, creates a unique shopping environment. Behind a curtain at the back of the store lies a substantial collection of donated clothing – reportedly filling bags stacked from floor to ceiling. The store relies entirely on donations collected from the surrounding region, a system that was already in place prior to the current owners taking over.
A dedicated collection bin, branded with the Attitude Thrift name, has been placed at a nearby recycling center, facilitating the flow of donations. All items are sorted, inspected, and then offered for sale. The rise of thrift stores like Attitude Thrift reflects a growing consumer interest in affordable and environmentally conscious shopping options, potentially impacting traditional retail models.
