Aubrey Plaza Expecting First Child with Christopher Abbott Following Loss of Husband Jeff Baena
Aubrey Plaza is embarking on a new chapter of motherhood. The White Lotus star is expecting her first child with partner Christopher Abbott, a representative confirmed to People.
The announcement that Aubrey Plaza is expecting her first child comes just over a year after the death of her husband, Jeff Baena, in January 2025. Although Plaza and Baena had been married for three years, the couple had been separated since September 2024. In the time following his passing, the Parks and Recreation alum has been candid regarding the difficulty of processing her grief.
While the confirmed pregnancy marks a new romantic partnership, Plaza and Abbott, 40, share a deep professional bond. The pair previously appeared together in the 2020 film Black Bear and collaborated on the 2023 off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.
This transition into parenthood gives Plaza a new audience for her literary function. She is the author of two children’s books: 2021’s The Legend of the Christmas Witch and its 2022 sequel, The Return of the Christmas Witch. During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show in October, Plaza revealed that the books were inspired by her own tradition of pranking her friends’ children by posing as the Christmas Witch and attempting to “steal their presents” on Christmas morning.
The news of her pregnancy with Christopher Abbott highlights a period of significant personal evolution for the actress. The announcement of her first pregnancy follows years of collaboration with her late husband, Jeff Baena, with whom she worked on projects such as Life After Beth (2014) and The Little Hours (2017).
