Audi announced on March 17, 2026, that it will launch the A2 e-tron in the fall of 2026, marking the brand’s first fully electric model in the compact class. The vehicle will be produced in Ingolstadt, Germany, and represents another step in Audi’s transition to electric mobility.
The announcement was made at Audi’s annual conference, where CEO Gernot Döllner presented a new family of electric models. According to Döllner, the A2 e-tron is designed for everyday use – compact, efficient, and more accessible to a wider range of customers, particularly those looking to enter the premium segment.
Initial images suggest the car’s design will echo the 1999 A2, while technically, it is likely to be based on the Volkswagen ID.3 platform, with an approximate length of 4.25 meters. This move signals Audi’s intent to leverage existing technology for cost-effective EV production.
The model name is deliberate, continuing the legacy of the earlier A2 as an economical and city-friendly vehicle, now in an electric version. Production in Germany underscores the importance of this project and Audi’s commitment to developing electric vehicles within the domestic market.
The A2 e-tron will be part of a broader strategy; following the introduction of over 20 new models between 2024 and 2025, Audi will continue to expand its offerings in 2026, encompassing both the compact segment and larger models, including the long-awaited Q9.
