Austria Finishes Tenth in Men’s Biathlon Relay, Eder Completes Final Olympic Race
Antholz, Italy – The Austrian men’s biathlon team finished tenth in the 4×7.5km relay at the Olympic Winter Games on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. France secured the gold medal with a time that was 9.8 seconds faster than Norway, who took silver. Sweden rounded out the podium with a bronze medal, finishing 57.5 seconds behind the French team.
Dominic Unterweger, Simon Eder, Fabian Müllauer, and Patrick Jakob comprised the Austrian quartet, completing the course with a total time 3:03.3 minutes behind the leaders. The result came as Simon Eder competed in his 27th and final Olympic Winter Games race.
Eder, a veteran of the sport, began his leg in 14th place after Unterweger required three extra rounds of ammunition. Despite struggling with the course and needing two extra rounds himself, Eder managed to only drop one position, handing off to Fabian Müllauer in 15th place, 1:28.8 minutes behind the frontrunners. “It was cool. The atmosphere was top. I have looked to make sure the race fit well, but it was very slow,” Eder said in a post-race interview.
A strong performance from Müllauer, who needed only one extra round and demonstrated impressive speed, helped propel Austria into the top ten. “I was able to build confidence in the shooting range in recent races. I also felt good on the course. Today, everything came together at the shooting range and on the course. I was very calm during the warm-up. Now I am even happier that I showed a good race,” Müllauer explained.
Meanwhile, the Austrian women’s team faced a more challenging day, finishing 15th in their 4x6km relay on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. Tamara Steiner, Anna Gandler, Anna Andexer, and Lisa Hauser accumulated 15 extra rounds and two penalty loops, finishing 4:56.6 minutes behind the winning French team.
The French women’s team, consisting of Camille Bened, Lou Jeanmonnot, Oceane Michelon, and Julia Simon, claimed gold with a 51.3-second advantage over Sweden, who secured silver. Norway took the bronze medal, finishing 1:07.6 minutes behind France. This marks Julia Simon’s third gold medal of the Games, following a similar victory for the French men’s team in the relay event.
