Austria Wins Again: Bundesliga Results & Sarkaria's Double

        <p>Manprit Sarkaria was the hero for Austria, netting a brace to seal the comeback victory and avenge their 0-1 home defeat to Linz on October 4th. The 29-year-old striker had previously found the back of the net only once this season, in a 2-2 draw against GAK. Johannes Eggestein added another for Austria, converting a penalty in added time of the first half.</p><p>The win marked a positive start to Michael Wagner’s tenure as Sporting Director, watching from the stands. Despite a spirited performance from Linz, featuring eye-catching volleys from Simon Seidl in the 20th and 76th minutes, they suffered their fifth straight league loss. Linz maintains a one-point lead over bottom-placed GAK, but the Graz side has an opportunity to leapfrog them on Sunday with a match against Rapid.</p><p>Austria manager Helm fielded the same starting eleven that began their 2-1 home win against GAK. Sarkaria’s quick pass found Manfred Fischer, who was brought down by Alem Pasic inside the penalty area. Eggestein calmly slotted home the resulting penalty. A potential equalizer from Weissman was immediately ruled out for offside (45+3).</p><p>Linz brought on Ronivaldo in the second half to bolster their attack, but Austria extended their advantage. A swift counter-attack culminated in a cross from Ranftl, headed across goal by Lee T. for Sarkaria to finish. Linz refused to surrender, with Sahin-Radlinger denying Pasic with a strong save in the 60th minute. However, Seidl struck again, connecting beautifully with a volley from a Pirkl cross to make it 2-3. A late effort to equalize saw Ranftl clear a shot from Ronivaldo off the line (88th).
