Austria’s music scene is reeling from accusations leveled against Christopher Seiler, one half of the popular duo Seiler and Speer. Reports indicate that prosecutors are investigating the singer following a claim of assault. The news comes just days after the Amadeus Awards, Austria’s equivalent of the Grammys, where Seiler was notably absent.

According to reports from outlets like Krone, the alleged incident took place on March 5th, the day before the Amadeus Awards. The woman claims Seiler offered her a ride home after a shoot, and that he then drove into a darkened alley. She alleges that a physical attack occurred inside the vehicle, stating that he forcibly opened her mouth. “Heute” reports the woman’s account of the alleged assault.

The woman filed a complaint with Vienna police on March 7th, initially citing assault, according to “Krone.”

“Currently, it’s a case of he said, she said”

The case is now with a prosecutor at the Vienna Regional Court, described by “Heute” as a “sealed file” – a procedure often used in sensitive cases involving prominent figures. A spokesperson for the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the complaint to “Krone.”

Both the musician and the woman have reportedly been questioned. “Heute” writes, “Currently, it’s a case of he said, she said.” Seiler’s management has stated they are fully cooperating with authorities. The prosecutor’s office will now decide whether to file charges or close the investigation. Seiler is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Seiler and his bandmate Bernhard Speer rose to prominence in 2014 with the hit “Ham kummst,” sparking a revival of Austrian dialect music. The duo cultivates a similar image to the Swiss band Büetzer Buebe. In 2025, Seiler and Speer filled the Ernst-Happel Stadium with 50,000 fans, demonstrating their widespread appeal.
