Lebanese actor Bassam Mughniyeh has captivated audiences with his portrayal of “Freed” in the 2026 Ramadan series “Bil Haram.”

Mughniyeh attributes the show’s widespread success to being a “complete and integrated work,” praising everyone involved, from director Philippe Asmar to the dramatic plot, writing, and production by Eagle Films, as well as the entire cast.

He revealed he even contributed to the development of his character, “Freed.” Initially, the script called for his reveal as the head of the gang in episode 23, but Mughniyeh suggested bringing that reveal forward, a change the writers and crew agreed to, adding an extra layer of suspense to the series.

In a candid conversation with Ralph Maatouk on the “Spot On” program, Mughniyeh described “Freed” as a “repulsive” and socially unacceptable character, but emphasized he aimed to portray him in a “smooth” manner, believing that villains in real life don’t openly display their evil, but rather try to be likable.

Mughniyeh likewise discussed his special connection with star Maggie Bou Ghesn, describing the chemistry between them as “natural love.” He stated, “I am different with Maggie… I love her,” adding that she is a loving person who praises his performance more than he can praise hers. He also strongly defended her against criticism and disputes, saying, “Maggie is often wronged… and most of the time she is right.”

Bou Ghesn responded, saying, “Friendship isn’t just a word, and you are an example of a true friend, Bassam. I love you, king.”

Despite calling himself “a son of Eagle Films” – a sentiment echoed by the company – Mughniyeh expressed his openness to working with other production houses. Regarding his absence from Al-Sabah productions, he clarified that his relationship with Sadiq, Anwar, and Lama Al-Sabah is friendly, but he doesn’t know why they haven’t collaborated yet, stressing the need for companies to produce purely Lebanese works, given the widespread belief in the strength of local drama.

Away from drama, Mughniyeh revealed an unfulfilled artistic wish: to participate in a film about Saint Charbel. He expressed his sadness at not being contacted by the filmmakers, despite his closeness to all faiths and frequent visits to the shrine of Saint Charbel.

He also noted that Philippe Asmar is “the director he is most comfortable working with,” and that they constantly exchange ideas about characters.

Regarding the series “Al Mohafaza 15,” Mughniyeh affirmed it was “a distinctive Lebanese work that raised an important issue,” congratulating his colleagues Yorgho Chleub and Karen Rizkallah.

As for his artistic choices, he confirmed that he seeks roles of a certain caliber after the success of “For Death,” while maintaining diversity and focusing on the script and the production company.
