Barbra Streisand, the iconic singer, actress, and filmmaker, will receive an honorary Palme d’Or at the 79th Cannes Film Festival (May 12-23). The announcement was made on March 11 by festival organizers, who described Streisand as “an iconic artist… Barbra Streisand is a star.”
The honor comes alongside a similar recognition for director Peter Jackson, who will receive an honorary Palme d’Or at the opening of the festival, as previously announced last week.
On Wednesday, Cannes Festival organizers announced that American actress and director Barbra Streisand (Hello, Dolly!, The Way We Were) will be presented with an honorary Palme d’Or during the next edition (May 12-23).
“An iconic artist, embodying the American dream in all its original splendor, Barbra Streisand is a star. To celebrate her immense career, the globally recognized actress, director, producer, screenwriter, singer and songwriter will receive an honorary Palme d’Or during the awards ceremony broadcast live from the stage of the Palais des Festivals on Saturday, May 23,” festival organizers stated in a press release.
Streisand previously appeared at Cannes as part of the Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound showcase in 2019, and in 2008 Cannes Classics paid tribute to her role in What’s Up, Doc?
