Baseus Inspire XH1: Review – Bose-tuned Sound on a Budget

Baseus expanded its product lineup beyond power banks and chargers at CES, unveiling a range of new devices including the Inspire XH1 noise-cancelling headphones. Developed in collaboration with Bose, the Inspire XH1 aims to deliver premium audio quality and features at a competitive price point. The increasing competition among Chinese brands is rapidly shrinking the compromises consumers make when buying budget-friendly wireless headphones.

The Inspire XH1 ships with a durable, gray carrying case designed to protect the headphones during travel. Build quality is impressive, with a substantial feel and smooth movement in the rotating parts. Buttons offer a firm, tactile response, and the earcups are covered in a soft, yet resilient, synthetic leather. The outer shell is constructed from a strong plastic with a slightly waxy texture, contributing to a premium aesthetic. Both the audio cable and included USB-C to USB-C cables are of high quality, reinforcing the impression of a product exceeding its price tag.

The headphones’ design is also noteworthy, featuring soft, rounded lines, discreet buttons, and sleek leatherette earcups. Available in multiple colors, the Sunset Coral option stands out as a particularly striking choice. The design and color scheme position the Inspire XH1 as much a fashion accessory as a functional device, offering a distinctive alternative to the more understated aesthetics common among competitors.

Comfort is also a key strength. Despite their solid construction, the headphones are lightweight and comfortable for extended wear. The earcups provide ample space, preventing pressure on the ears. While some users may experience warmth after prolonged use, the overall fit is excellent. This is particularly relevant as the demand for comfortable, all-day headphones continues to grow.

Sound quality proved to be a pleasant surprise. With the default Bose-tuned calibration, the audio is crisp and clear across all frequencies. Deep bass is present without being overpowering, and the mid and high tones are equally well-defined. The result is a balanced sound profile that lends itself well to both music and movies. When connected to a PlayStation 5, the 35mm drivers delivered enhanced clarity and depth in games like Battlefield 6, making footsteps and explosions more immersive. The headphones also support Dolby Audio, Hi-Res Audio, and LDAC for improved Bluetooth audio quality.

Users can further customize the sound profile through the Baseus app, although deviating from the default Bose calibration may compromise audio clarity. The active noise cancellation (ANC) effectively eliminates approximately 90% of engine noise during flights and reduces most background distractions in everyday environments, rivaling the performance of more expensive ANC headphones. While the difference between ANC enabled and disabled is noticeable, the awareness mode functions as expected, albeit with a reduction in audio quality.

Battery life is another significant advantage. Baseus, with its experience in power banks, delivers on its claim of up to 100 hours of playtime. The headphones provide a voice prompt indicating the current battery level, and initial testing showed minimal battery drain during several hours of use. This exceptional battery life is a major benefit for travelers and users who require long-lasting performance.

Call quality with the built-in microphone is adequate, though background noise can be noticeable. Dedicated noise reduction for calls isn’t apparent, but it’s sufficient for typical conversations and video meetings. The Baseus Inspire XH1 headphones offer an exceptional value, delivering a premium experience that belies their price point.
