The historic Abbaye de Bassac will host a Gregorian chant workshop on March 14 and 15, offering a unique opportunity for amateur singers to delve into this ancient musical tradition. The weekend-long event will be led by Dominique Habellion, the esteemed choirmaster of the Schola Martialensis of Limoges.
The workshop, now in its third year, aims to explore the interpretation of Gregorian chants through the lens of both Neumatic notation of Saint Gall and the square notation found in the Gradual of Fontevraud. Participants will have the chance to function with original manuscripts and gain a deeper understanding of the historical context of this sacred music.
Open to both female and male voices, the workshop welcomes choristers of all skill levels eager to discover or refine their knowledge of Gregorian chant. Some of the pieces practiced during the weekend will be performed during a Sunday mass at the abbey.
Space is limited for the workshop, and those interested are encouraged to register by contacting Jean Lafontaine at 06 64 82 58 61 for logistical details. The event provides a rare opportunity to immerse oneself in a centuries-old art form within the serene and historically rich setting of the Abbaye de Bassac.
