Electronic Arts is offering a free week of access to Battlefield 6 between March 17 and March 24, the company confirmed. The move comes as the game has seen a significant drop in player numbers since its launch in October. Steam data shows a peak of 747,440 concurrent users on launch day has fallen to just 47,876 in the last 24 hours, representing a 93.6% decrease.
The free access period will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. During the week, players will have access to four maps and three distinct game modes. Two of the four maps – Contamination, described as a rugged European landscape, and the depths of Base Hagental – were added in Season 2, which launched in mid-February.
Season 2 arrived on February 17 following a delay of nearly a month from its original release date of January 20. Battlefield Studios cited the demand to improve quality before delivering the content to players as the reason for the postponement, extending Season 1 in the interim.
The free period coincides with the second phase of Season 2, which introduced night mode, the Base Hagental map, and new content for Battlefield REDSEC, the game’s free-to-play battle royale mode. New additions include new activities, an additional point of interest, more equipment, secondary weapons, and off-road motorcycles. The integration of a battle royale mode demonstrates the game’s attempt to broaden its appeal within the competitive gaming landscape.
The third and final phase of the season will arrive on April 14. It will introduce the limited-time mode Operation Augur, a new LTV vehicle, a unique melee weapon, and an update to Battlefield Portal with additional curated modes.
