Concerts by Polish band Behemoth and Russian group Slaughter to Prevail, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday at the Zorlu Performing Arts Center in Istanbul’s Besiktas district, have been canceled. Authorities in the district cited “incompatibility of the bands with social values” in Turkey as the reason for the decision. The move followed a media campaign accusing the groups of promoting Satanism.

The Besiktas mayor’s office announced that, based on law no. 2911 regarding meetings and demonstrations, “all concerts, festivals, group events and ticketed events, and similar events at the Zorlu Center have been banned for two days.” This encompasses both dates originally planned for the bands’ performances on the European side of Istanbul.

Davut Gül, the Istanbul governor appointed by central authorities, voiced support for the decision. He posted on X, stating, “No activity that corrupts society has been allowed in Istanbul and none will be allowed in the future.”

Slaughter to Prevail vocalist Alex Terrible addressed the situation on Instagram. He reported being informed that the concert was canceled due to pressure from religious groups who accused the band of spreading Satanic propaganda. “This is a complete lie. I believe in God,” the musician wrote, describing the situation as “incredibly sad.”

Prior to the cancellation, pro-government television channel Akit TV aired a segment accusing both bands of promoting Satanism and endangering youth. The presenter called on authorities to react immediately, stating that “urgent action must be taken to cancel these events poisoning children, and youth.”
