A 40-year-old athlete achieved victory in the parallel giant slalom event, marking a career highlight during his fifth Games appearance at the Livigno Olympic course.

On Sunday, South Korea’s Sangkyum Kim secured the silver medal, while Bulgaria’s Tervel Zamfirov took home the bronze.

Overcome with emotion after his win, the athlete removed his jersey and lay on the snow, waving his arms and shouting in celebration.

“Now I’ve done it, this is the peak of my career,” exclaimed Bernhard Karl, who plans to retire after this season.

He previously won Olympic gold in Beijing in 2022, a silver medal in Vancouver in 2010, and a bronze medal in Sochi in 2014.

In the women’s parallel giant slalom competition, Czech Republic’s Zuzana Maderova claimed the gold medal, Austria’s Sabine Payer earned silver, and Italy’s Lucia Dalmasso secured the bronze.
