The city of Birigui is launching a collection initiative for discarded tires from March 16-18, 2026, to address both environmental concerns and public health risks.
The collection will take place at all autocenters within Birigui, operating from 8 a.m. To 5 p.m. Each day. Businesses are asked to place tires designated for disposal on the sidewalk outside their establishments for uncomplicated collection.
This bi-weekly effort aims to prevent the improper disposal of tires, which can create breeding grounds for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes – carriers of dengue fever, chikungunya, Zika virus, and urban yellow fever. Controlling mosquito populations is a key strategy in preventing the spread of these potentially serious diseases.
All collected tires will be transferred to a company registered with the Cetesb (Companhia Ambiental do Estado de São Paulo), specializing in the appropriate disposal of these materials, at no cost to the municipality.
