Bluepoint Games, known for its acclaimed remakes of classic titles, reportedly sought to develop a remake of Bloodborne, but the project was ultimately blocked. The decision, revealed in a recent report, highlights the complexities of game development and the creative control held by original developers.

Following successful remakes of Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, and collaborative perform on God of War Ragnarok with Santa Monica Studio, Bluepoint initially aimed to pursue an original intellectual property. However, the company shifted focus towards live service games, beginning development on a God of War universe project featuring Atreus exploring the Greek underworld with cooperative elements. This ambitious project was ultimately canceled in 2025.

Bluepoint wanted the Bloodborne remake, but Sony prioritized the God of War live service, according to a new report

With the live service project scrapped, Bluepoint turned its attention to a Bloodborne remake, a long-requested title among fans. However, FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creators of Bloodborne, reportedly opposed the effort.

FromSoftware Protects Its Vision for Bloodborne

Shuhei Yoshida previously stated in January that there were no plans for a Bloodborne remaster or remake due to objections from Miyazaki and FromSoftware. The recent Bloomberg report corroborates this, indicating that the Japanese studio and its director are unwilling to allow others to rework the title. This stance underscores the strong creative control developers are increasingly asserting over their intellectual property.

Faced with this refusal, Bluepoint proposed alternative projects, including an updated re-release of Shadow of the Colossus and a spin-off title for Ghost of Tsushima. However, Sony did not approve these proposals, leaving the development team without concrete assignments for over a year before ultimately ceasing operations.
