BNXT League Faces Shrinking Dutch Presence as Clubs Withdraw
The BNXT League, a professional basketball league encompassing teams from Belgium and the Netherlands, is experiencing a reduction in Dutch participation as multiple clubs have opted not to apply for a license for the upcoming season. This development, reported by Nieuwsblad, raises concerns about the league’s future balance and competitiveness.
Both Den Helder and BA Limburg have already announced their withdrawal, and now Leeuwarden has also decided to pull out of the BNXT League, according to sporza. This leaves the league increasingly dominated by Flemish teams.
Den Helder Suns currently compete in the BNXT League and play their home games at Sporthal Sportlaan in Den Helder. The team’s roster for the 2025-2026 season includes players such as Darius Banks, a power forward, along with Antoine Bryan (25), Balsa Rantonits (21), and Thijs Beens (19). Coach Paul Vervaeck, age 70, leads the team. Recent results reveal Den Helder faced Den Bosch on May 9th, and Leiden is on their schedule.
The BNXT League aims to provide a competitive platform for basketball in the Benelux region. The recent departures of Dutch clubs could impact the league’s overall quality and viewership as it moves forward. Further details on the league’s response to these withdrawals are expected soon.
