Bogotá’s mayor has sharply criticized delivery app Rappi following a violent attack on a motorist by a group of delivery drivers. The incident, captured on video, has sparked public outrage and calls for increased accountability from the company.

On Thursday, April 2, 2026, Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán condemned the actions of the drivers, who allegedly pursued and vandalized a vehicle after a traffic dispute in the northern part of the city. The attack left the vehicle severely damaged and its occupants shaken, according to early reports.

“Cases like this, where several Rappi delivery drivers pursue a car and then attack it, are not a matter of intolerance, they are violence and are unacceptable,” Galán stated on his social media account. He further demanded that Rappi grab responsibility for the actions of its drivers and implement measures to prevent similar incidents. El Tiempo reported on the mayor’s strong rebuke.

According to witnesses, the incident began when a driver of a private vehicle did not yield to the motorcyclists. The delivery drivers then allegedly chased the car for several blocks before cornering it and repeatedly striking it, causing extensive damage to the body and windows. El Pais detailed the sequence of events.

The Bogotá Police and the Mobility Secretariat have been called upon to issue sanctions, and Galán emphasized that Rappi cannot evade its responsibility to control its delivery personnel. Colombia.com likewise covered the mayor’s statements.

Rappi has since announced new security measures in response to the violence, though details were not immediately available. Caracol Radio reported on the company’s response.

A separate incident on Sunday, March 29, 2026, involved an attack on an elderly man by delivery drivers after a minor traffic disagreement, highlighting a pattern of aggressive behavior. El Espectador reported on this related incident.

The case underscores growing concerns about the safety of both motorists and delivery drivers in Bogotá, and the need for greater regulation and oversight of the rapidly expanding delivery service industry.
