A family’s journey home to Brăila took a tragic turn Monday evening when a collision on DN2B claimed the lives of Cătălina and Dan, a local couple. The accident, which occurred between Silistraru and Lacu Sărat, also left their 6-year-old daughter injured.
According to reports, a 35-year-old driver from Făurei-Sat, Surdila-Greci, crossed into oncoming traffic, causing the devastating impact. Cătălina, 40, was a teacher at Liceul Teoretic “Panait Cerna,” while Dan, 45, served as a correctional officer at the juvenile detention center in Tichilești. The loss has deeply shaken the local community.
The couple’s daughter sustained minor injuries and is currently receiving medical care at a local hospital. Authorities have stated that the other driver did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol, but has been unable to explain why their vehicle was on the wrong side of the road.
Emergency responders, including a rescue team, a fire engine, and an SMURD ambulance crew, were dispatched to the scene. Additional support was provided by the Brăila County Ambulance Service, with one Type C and two Type B ambulances responding to the incident. The tragedy underscores the fragility of life and the impact of traffic accidents on families and communities.
