Britney Spears Reportedly Sells Music Rights for $200M

Britney Spears has sold the rights to her entire music catalog to Primary Wave in a deal reportedly finalized on December 30, according to early reports. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but sources indicate the value is comparable to the $200 million Justin Bieber received when he sold his music rights in 2023.

The sale includes hit songs such as “… Baby One More Time,” “Oops! … I Did It Again,” “Toxic,” “Gimme More,” “I’m a Slave 4 U,” and “Stronger,” among many others. This move reflects a growing trend among artists seeking to monetize their catalogs, as music rights become increasingly valuable assets in the digital economy.

Spears, who is currently managed by Cade Hudson, is reportedly “happy with the sale” and has been spending time with her children. Neither Primary Wave nor Spears’ management have yet commented on the deal, which was first reported by TMZ.

The agreement positions Primary Wave, a publishing giant managing the estates of music legends like Bob Marley and Stevie Nicks, as the owner of Spears’ extensive musical works. The company also represents artists including Whitney Houston, Prince and Aerosmith.

Spears joins a growing number of prominent artists who have recently sold their music rights, including Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Neil Young, Sting, and Phil Collins. The trend highlights the increasing appeal of catalog sales as a financial strategy for musicians, particularly as streaming services reshape the music industry.
