A man was shot and killed in broad daylight in Burgas, Bulgaria, on Monday, March 16, 2026. The incident is prompting a police investigation and raising concerns in the Black Sea city.

The shooting occurred around 3:15 p.m. Local time in a busy area between Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodiy and Pop Georgi streets, according to reports. The case highlights the increasing concerns over public safety in the region.

Initial reports indicate the victim was found in the driver’s seat of a dark-colored Audi. Images from the scene show a bullet hole in the vehicle’s window. Authorities are investigating all possibilities, including the possibility of suicide.

“I was leaving my house at 3:15 p.m. Heading towards St. St. Cyril and Methodius Square, and I heard a sound behind me like a firecracker,” a witness told local media. “I turned around, but didn’t see anything unusual and continued on my way. About 7-8 minutes later, I returned to the street where I live, Pop Georgi, and noticed the shopkeeper from the detergent store was incredibly upset. I asked her what was happening, and she said, ‘Don’t you see, there’s a dead man in that Audi – he’s been shot.’”

The victim has been identified as Hristo Burgazliev, a businessman from Pomorie who owned a currency exchange bureau, Marica.bg reports. His exchange bureau was reportedly closed at the time of the shooting, with the shutters down.

Police have not released further details as the investigation continues.

Details are still emerging.
