BYD Launches New All-Wheel Drive Model, Targeting Market Leadership in Norway
Oslo, Norway – March 11, 2026 – Chinese automaker BYD is making a significant push into the Norwegian market with the launch of its new EVO 4×4, a substantially upgraded electric SUV boasting impressive performance specifications and a competitive price point. The company has stated its ambition to become the leading automotive brand in Norway within the next five years.
The EVO 4×4, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, features all-wheel drive and delivers 443 horsepower. It offers a range of up to 470 kilometers on a single charge. The vehicle comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of features, including a panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree camera system. TV2.no reports that the starting price for the EVO 4×4 is 389,900 Norwegian kroner.
BYD is positioning the EVO 4×4 as a successor to the Atto 3, of which over 1,300 units are already registered in Norway. But, the company emphasizes that the upgrades are extensive enough to warrant a new model name. “Although the model builds on the BYD Atto 3, the upgrades are so comprehensive that the car appears as a significant further development. We have chosen to launch it under a separate model name: EVO 4×4,” said Frank Dunvold, Managing Director of RSA and responsible for BYD Norway.
The launch of the EVO 4×4 comes amidst intense competition in the new electric vehicle market, even with the recent increase in elbilmoms (electric vehicle tax) from the start of the year. Despite this, prices remain relatively low and the new model offers a compelling combination of performance, features, and affordability. Norsk elbilforening highlights that the vehicle delivers on many of the key features sought by Norwegian consumers.
According to BYD’s official website, the EVO 4×4 represents the next step in the development of electric SUVs, designed for families and active lifestyles. The company is currently offering a 2.99% interest rate on leasing and financing options for the new model.
The introduction of the 800-volt architecture and four-wheel drive represent substantial changes, prompting the name change from Atto to Evo. Motor.no reports that the vehicle is being marketed as a “compact supercar.”
BYD is also offering a promotional package that includes 18-inch alloy winter wheels and a metallic Skiing White paint finish. Elbil24 notes that the company anticipates strong sales for the EVO 4×4, citing its competitive pricing and feature set.
