A shooting spanning multiple locations in northeastern British Columbia has left 10 people dead, including the suspect, authorities confirmed Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The rare incident unfolded across a school and a nearby home, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement and emergency services.
“This was a rapidly evolving and dynamic situation, and the quick cooperation of the school, first responders, and residents played a crucial role in our intervention,” stated Ken Floyd, a police official. The shootings are a jarring event for Canada, a country where mass casualty incidents are uncommon.
“Today has been an incredibly difficult and emotionally taxing day for our community,” Floyd added. Tumbler Ridge, where the shootings occurred, is located more than 620 miles northeast of Vancouver, the largest city in British Columbia.
Prime Minister Responds
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed his shock and sadness following the “terrible shooting.”
“I join Canadians in extending my deepest sympathies to those whose lives have been forever changed today, and in commending the courage and selflessness of the first responders who risked their lives to protect their fellow citizens,” Carney said in a message posted on X.
The incident marks the second shooting in British Columbia in less than a year. In April 2025, eleven people were killed in Vancouver when a driver deliberately crashed a truck into a crowd celebrating a Filipino cultural festival. The recent events are likely to reignite debate over gun control measures within Canada.
