The Canadian women’s hockey team claimed a silver medal at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, falling to the United States 2-1 in overtime.

Canada has reached the podium in every tournament since women’s hockey debuted at Nagano 1998, continuing a remarkable streak of consistency on the world stage.

This marked the fifth consecutive Olympic Winter Games final contested between the two North American rivals.

Earlier in the competition, the Americans secured a decisive 5-0 victory over Canada on February 10th, resulting in the Canadians finishing second in Group A.

Canadian captain Marie-Philip Poulin appeared in her 27th career Olympic game, setting a new national record.

Ann-Renée Desbiens and Aerin Frankel started in net for Canada and the United States, respectively.

Despite two power play opportunities in the first period, Canada was unable to break the deadlock, and the teams headed to the locker room tied 0-0.

Canada registered eight shots on goal to the United States’ six.

The Canadians didn’t waste any time finding the back of the net in the second period.

While Ella Shelton was serving a penalty for hooking, Laura Stacey and Kristin O’Neill launched a two-on-one rush.

On the break, Stacey fed a pass to O’Neill, who beat Frankel with a attractive forehand deke.

Renata Fast too recorded an assist on the game’s opening goal.

After 20 minutes, Canada led 1-0.

The second period was equally tight-checking, with the United States firing 14 shots on goal to Canada’s 13, bringing the overall shot total to 21-20 in favor of Canada.

In the third period, the Canadians held firm until the final two minutes of regulation, when the American coach called a timeout and pulled Frankel for an extra attacker.

A point shot from Leila Edwards was redirected by Hilary Knight to tie the game.

Megan Keller also received an assist on the play.

The game then went to a 20-minute, three-on-three overtime period to decide the outcome.

In the extra frame, Megan Keller scored the game-winning goal for the United States.
