The Adeje City Council is inviting participation in the III Canary Islands Pediatric Cancer Congress: Strengthening Lives, a significant event focused on advancements in childhood cancer care. The City Council collaborates with the event through its health department to manage the project, and the congress will be held at the University of La Laguna between April 22 and April 24.

Over the past several decades, childhood cancer has seen remarkable progress, transitioning from a condition with limited treatment options to a success story of modern medicine. Increased survival rates—now exceeding 80% in many countries—are a testament to advances in research, early diagnosis, and multidisciplinary treatments. This positive trend highlights the importance of continued focus on improving outcomes for young patients.

As more children survive cancer and reach adolescence and adulthood, a new challenge emerges: providing comprehensive, long-term support. Healthcare, education, and social professionals must address the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of these survivors and their families beyond the initial treatment phase.

The goal of the III Pediatric Cancer Congress is to foster knowledge sharing, facilitate collaboration, and develop solutions for the evolving needs of childhood cancer survivors. “Working with childhood cancer survivors means committing to comprehensive, ongoing, and coordinated care that guarantees not only years of life, but quality of life,” according to event materials.
