The Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation will soon offer art workshops for cancer patients, supported by the Oncology Patient Support Fund. The workshops will be led by local artist Édith Cambrini and focus on themes related to the cancer experience.

The initiative aims to provide a creative outlet and supportive environment for individuals navigating cancer and their caregivers, recognizing the importance of holistic care for both physical and emotional well-being.

“Édith, who has worked with cancer patients and holds a master’s degree in social work, and the BMP Foundation began developing the art workshops in 2024,” the Foundation stated in a press release. “These workshops are aimed at both people affected by cancer and their caregivers.”

The first workshops are scheduled to take place at La Ruche d’art in Cowansville, located within the Gabrielle-Giroux-Bertrand library, on the next three Saturdays from 9 a.m. To 10 a.m. Additional sessions are planned for March 18 and April 26, 2026.

Participation is open to residents of the region who are currently receiving cancer treatment or have completed treatment within the past three months through a CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS facility.

ONCOLOGY PATIENT SUPPORT FUND

The Oncology Patient Support Fund was established in 2019 with the goal of implementing projects to support individuals affected by cancer or in remission. The fund is a community-driven initiative dedicated to serving patients of the BMP Hospital Oncology Clinic.

Current initiatives supported by the fund include adapted yoga classes taught by certified instructor Laura Hernandez, and independent training programs led by kinesiologist Gabrielle Duhamel. Duhamel’s programs are specifically designed for individuals who are immunocompromised or require a personalized approach to physical activity due to pain. Over $10,000 has been invested in the yoga program alone, benefiting over a hundred people with adapted sessions.

Participants in Duhamel’s program benefit from three 75-minute sessions, valued at $145, to help them develop a home exercise plan and maintain an active lifestyle.
