The Institut de communication et d’information sur le cancer (ICIC) is hosting a free day of information and exchange in Perpignan, France, dedicated to improving understanding of cancer prevention and care.
With over 400,000 new cancer cases diagnosed annually in France, including approximately 4,200 in the Pyrénées-Orientales region, access to reliable information and support is crucial for both patients and the public. This event aims to address that need.
The “Printemps de la cancérologie” (Spring of Oncology) event, taking place Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 6:15 PM at the Palais des congrès de Perpignan, will provide an opportunity for the public to directly engage with specialists on topics ranging from prevention and therapeutic advancements to supportive care. The event promotes a patient-centered approach to healthcare, recognizing that behind every medical file is an individual with a unique story.
Representatives from local organizations – including the Ligue contre le cancer, RKS, and La Tête et les Jambes – will be on hand throughout the day to offer support and personalized guidance. This access to local resources can be invaluable for individuals navigating a cancer diagnosis or seeking preventative information.
Preventive measures targeting lifestyle factors like tobacco use, alcohol consumption, and obesity are key, as these contribute to approximately 35% of cancer cases. Early detection also remains vital, with a 92% survival rate for breast cancer detected at an early stage, compared to just 14% at an advanced stage. Advances in treatment are also helping to minimize side effects and improve patients’ quality of life.
The La Tête et les Jambes center (Technosud 2, Perpignan) provides free care to patients and their families, including psychological support, physiotherapy, and wellness workshops.
