Caputo on Middle East Conflict: Argentina’s Economic Shield

Argentina’s Economy Minister Luis Caputo indicated on Monday that escalating tensions in the Middle East represent a “strong external shock” but emphasized that a sound macroeconomic foundation remains the best defense against potential fallout.

Caputo expressed support for the presidential decision to align with the United States and Israel from the outset of the conflict. “I am glad for the presidential decision to be aligned from the first minute with the U.S. And Israel,” he stated.

The minister acknowledged the situation will “have its consequences,” but also noted the potential impact on industries where Argentina is developing strength. This assessment comes as global markets monitor the situation for potential disruptions to energy supplies and broader economic stability.

“It is a strong external shock. It is challenging to know how long it may last,” Caputo said in remarks to El Cronista Stream. “What I am most happy about is the president’s decision to be aligned with the right side. From that point of view, I feel it was another success of the president.”

Caputo reiterated the importance of maintaining “fundamentals in order, the macroeconomy orderly” as a key buffer against external pressures. The comments underscore the government’s focus on economic stability amid geopolitical uncertainty.
