A vehicle left the roadway and crashed into the rocky shoreline along the Atlantic Road near Storlauvøya in Averøy, Norway, on Friday evening, February 13, 2026. The incident prompted a temporary safety zone due to concerns about a potential electrical hazard.

Police were alerted to the single-vehicle accident at 10:18 p.m. Local time.

Initial reports indicated four people were inside the vehicle, which had rolled off the road and came to rest approximately 330 feet from the travel lanes, in the intertidal zone.

The extent of injuries to those involved was initially unknown, but authorities reported no immediate indication of serious harm, according to a statement from operations leader Tove Susann Brunvold Holst-Dyrnes at 10:35 p.m.

Fifteen minutes later, police confirmed that all four occupants had been transported to a hospital by ambulance.

Authorities noted significant damage to the vehicle.

Oil Leak

During the incident, the vehicle struck and damaged a transformer station.

“Oil is leaking from the transformer station,” police reported at 10:46 p.m. “A safety distance is now being established due to the risk of explosion.”

A 165-foot safety perimeter was established around the site before power was cut at 11 p.m.

“The risk of explosion is relatively low. The safety zone has simply been created to be safe, and with regard to those working in the area,” said on-duty commander Be Klein Hulse of the fire department to VG.

Shortly after midnight, police reported that the energy company NEAS was on scene addressing the damage. Police then concluded their operate at the location.

There is no suspicion of driving under the influence, but police have decided to suspend the driver’s license and are opening an investigation.
