Bogotá, Colombia – Chinese President Xi Jinping extended greetings on Thursday, March 21, 2026, to the 10th Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), currently underway in Colombia. The summit, a key gathering for regional cooperation, is focused on strengthening integration and addressing shared challenges within Latin America and the Caribbean.

In his message, President Xi highlighted CELAC’s commitment to fostering peace, stability, and prosperity throughout the region. He noted that the organization has played an increasingly important role in promoting unity and collaborative development among nations of the Global South. This comes as Latin American nations increasingly seek to diversify partnerships and address issues of economic and political sovereignty.

Xi also referenced the successful fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum, held in Beijing last May, where he announced the launch of five collaborative projects: unity, development, civilization, peace, and people-to-people exchange. He stated that these initiatives have received a positive response from Latin American and Caribbean countries and have yielded tangible benefits for citizens on both sides.

“China will always be a fine friend and good partner to Latin American and Caribbean countries,” Xi affirmed in his message. He pledged continued support for the region’s efforts to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and development interests. The Chinese leader also expressed a desire to function alongside CELAC members to uphold international fairness and justice and to jointly build a shared future for China and Latin America.

The summit in Bogotá provides a platform for leaders to discuss critical regional issues and chart a course for greater cooperation. Discussions are expected to center on economic integration, sustainable development, and addressing common security concerns.
