Atlético Madrid, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Barcelona all secured their places in the Champions League quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Atlético Madrid advanced despite a narrow 3-2 loss at Tottenham Hotspur, with a crucial goal in the 75th minute from Slovakian defender Dávid Hancko proving decisive.

Having won the first leg 5-2 at home, Atlético will now face FC Barcelona in the next round.

Liverpool overturned a one-goal deficit from the first leg with a dominant 4-0 victory at home against Galatasaray.

The Reds will now take on defending champions Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals.

Bayern Munich completed a comfortable victory over Atalanta, winning 4-1 at home to confirm their aggregate score of 6-1 from the first leg. They will face Real Madrid in a quarterfinal clash.

Barcelona delivered a dominant performance, defeating Newcastle United 7-2 at home after a 1-1 draw in the first leg, securing their spot in the final eight.

Hancko Dashes Tottenham’s Hopes

Atlético Madrid, featuring Hancko at center-back, were without injured goalkeeper Oblak, with Argentinian Musso taking his place in goal.

Musso was called into action after 30 minutes, forced to retrieve the ball from the net after Kolo Muani headed home a cross from Tel on the right side.

Five minutes later, Musso denied Tel’s curling effort, keeping Atlético within reach.

Spurs carried a narrow advantage into the second half, but their hopes of overturning the first-leg deficit were hampered by Alvarez, who leveled the score at 1-1 with a stunning strike from inside the box.

But, Tottenham couldn’t complete the comeback.

The decisive moment came 15 minutes from time when Hancko rose highest to meet a corner kick from Alvarez on the left, powering a header past the near post to make it 2-2.

It was Hancko’s fourth Champions League goal overall (two for Feyenoord, two for Atlético). Simons then converted a penalty in the 90th minute to deliver Tottenham a consolation victory.

Salah Misses Penalty, Then Finds the Net

Liverpool had the chance to overturn their first-leg deficit early on, as Szoboszlai equalized in the 25th minute with a goal from a corner kick. A foul on the Hungarian international then earned the home side a penalty in stoppage time of the first half.

However, Salah’s attempt was saved by goalkeeper Cakir, who made a crucial save with his feet.

The Egyptian forward similarly missed another opportunity soon after, but Liverpool ultimately found their breakthrough after halftime. Ekitike, Gravenberch, and Salah all scored to secure Liverpool’s passage to the next round.

Bayern Dominant in Round of 16

Bayern Munich extended their unbeaten run across all competitions to 10 matches, with a commanding performance against Atalanta. Youngster Urbig started in goal for Bayern.

Kane opened the scoring in the 25th minute from a retaken penalty, after initially having his first attempt saved by Sportiello, who moved forward prematurely. The England captain calmly converted the second attempt.

Kane added his second in the second half, with Karl and Diaz also getting on the scoresheet as Atalanta were eliminated, losing 1-4 on the night and 2-10 on aggregate – becoming the last Serie A team to exit the competition.
