The incident, highlighted in the VUGD’s daily report, underscores the importance of quick thinking and community support in emergency situations.

After noticing smoke and detecting a fire, the child left the house and flagged down a passing car. The child then informed the driver about the fire at their home. The VUGD also commended the driver for stopping to assist after seeing the child’s distress.

CITI ŠOBRĪD LASA

Upon hearing the child’s account, the bystanders called 112 and then entered the building. The fire was contained to a small area, allowing them to begin extinguishing it with fire extinguishers until firefighters arrived.

The VUGD is urging parents to discuss proper fire safety procedures with their children. Children should understand that the most important thing during a fire is to evacuate the building or move away from the flames and smoke, and to prioritize their own safety. A note with the emergency number 112 can be placed in a visible location within the home.

It is also crucial that children know they can seek help from adults.
