Chile’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expanded 1.6% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, the Central Bank reported Wednesday, resulting in a 2.5% increase in the national economy for the entire past year.

“This result reflected the performance of domestic demand, which was driven by both investment and consumption,” the Central Bank indicated in its National Accounts report on annual performance in 2025. “From the supply side, most economic activities showed positive figures.”

The report also noted revisions to GDP growth, increasing two-tenths of a percentage point from 0.5% to 0.7% for 2023 and from 2.6% to 2.8% for 2024. The average activity over the last four years – corresponding to the administration of former President Gabriel Boric – was 2%.

The Central Bank also reported that during 2025, the current account registered a deficit of US$4.349 million, equivalent to 1.2% of GDP.

Household consumption increased by 2.7% throughout the year, with increases in all components, particularly in the consumption of non-durable goods, including clothing and food.

Still, the surprise came from investment, which increased by 8.9%, with the main performance coming from gross fixed capital formation (GFCF), which grew by 7% due to increased purchases of electrical and electronic equipment and transportation, such as trucks and buses.

Real national disposable income expanded by 4% during the year, explained by an increase in terms of trade, an effect partially offset by higher income paid abroad.

total gross savings amounted to 24.1% of GDP in nominal terms, composed of national savings of 22.8% of GDP and external savings of 1.2% of GDP.

Sector Performance

The mining sector experienced a 1.3% decline in activity during the year, primarily due to lower ore grades and water restrictions that reduced production, along with stoppages at some deposits.

Meanwhile, the agricultural-forestry sector saw a 6.3% increase in activity in 2025, due to increased production in all areas except forestry. Fishing grew by 15.8%.

The manufacturing industry expanded by 3.1%, driven by the production of food and metal products, machinery and equipment. In contrast, the production of beverages and tobacco fell.

The activity of electricity supply, gas, water and waste management (EGA) decreased by 2.7% in 2025, affected by electricity generation.

Commerce grew by 6.1% and recorded increases in all its areas.

Transportation grew by 3.4%; all its activities recorded positive figures, associated with cargo movement activities, with the exception of rail transport. Meanwhile, communications and information services rose by 2.2% and business services increased by 2.6%.

Personal services grew by 3.9%, influenced by health and, to a lesser extent, education.
