A 60-year-old man, identified by authorities as Gil, died Friday afternoon whereas preparing the stage for the upcoming Chimbas Carnival, according to reports. The incident occurred in the Costanera area as workers were setting up for the festivities.
According to judicial sources, the worker was on a scaffold installing stage elements when he began to feel unwell. He was able to descend the scaffold on his own to seek assistance, but then suffered a sudden collapse.
Police and medical personnel at the scene immediately provided resuscitation attempts, but were unable to revive him. The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation.
Initial reports suggest the death may have been due to natural causes, but an autopsy has been ordered by the Justice Department to determine the precise cause of death. The case highlights the risks associated with stage construction and event preparation.
The Special Crimes Unit (UFI Delitos Especiales) is handling the investigation, led by prosecutor Nicolás Schiattino, who has ordered the body to be transferred to the Forensic Morgue for a thorough examination.
