China has voiced its support for the United Arab Emirates’ sovereignty and condemned recent attacks on civilians, as tensions remain high in the region following Iranian strikes.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi affirmed his country’s backing for the UAE’s security, territorial integrity, and sovereignty, according to reports on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. He as well denounced attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure. Details of the statement were reported by موقع 24.
The statement comes after a recent barrage of missile and drone attacks launched by Iran against the UAE. UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy stated that the UAE is “doubling down” on efforts to strengthen agreements with the United States in the wake of the Iranian attacks. CNN reported on Sunday that Al Hashimy said the relationship with the U.S. Is a “long-standing strategic partnership.”
Al Hashimy also indicated that the UAE does not seek to escalate the conflict but reserves the right to defend itself. The UAE’s Ministry of Defense has displayed remnants of intercepted Iranian missiles, and drones. This move underscores the UAE’s commitment to defending its territory.
China also previously rejected the Iranian attacks on Gulf states, stating that resolving the crisis requires a return to dialogue and negotiation. Alawsat reported on this stance on March 8. The UAE’s economy minister has also sought to reassure citizens regarding food security following the attacks.
