A renewed focus on anti-corruption efforts is underway in several Chinese provinces, with officials emphasizing the importance of maintaining close ties with the people as a key component of the strategy. The push comes as the country continues to address corruption at various levels of government.
On January 26, 2022, Yin Hong, Secretary of the Gansu Provincial Committee, addressed the Sixth Plenary Session of the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, stressing the need to deepen the fight against corruption and uphold the Party’s discipline. According to reports, Yin Hong urged officials to “earnestly study and implement the important speeches of General Secretary Xi Jinping” and to “firmly uphold the ‘two establishments’ and resolutely do the ‘two maintenances.’” This underscores the central government’s commitment to maintaining political stability and ideological control while tackling corruption.
Yin Hong emphasized the importance of maintaining a firm political stance and “daring to self-revolution,” calling for a deeper and more sustained approach to enforcing party discipline and combating corruption. He too highlighted the need to address corruption in key areas and to prevent collusion between government and business, a common target in China’s anti-corruption campaigns. The move reflects a broader effort to strengthen the Party’s internal oversight mechanisms.
The Gansu Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection’s perform report was presented at the meeting by Wang Fu, Secretary of the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Director of the Provincial Supervision Commission. Attendees included Ren Zhenhe, Ou Yang Jian, Ma Tingli, Hu Chuo, Wang Jia Yi, Shi Moujun, Pu Yongneng, Zhu Tianshu, and Cheng Xiaobo.
Similar sentiments were echoed in Jiangxi province, where Secretary Yin Hong underscored the significance of Xi Jinping’s thoughts on self-revolution within the Party. The China Discipline Inspection and Supervision News reported that enhancing the quality and effectiveness of Party governance and improving the “dual accountability system” for comprehensive and strict Party governance are key priorities. This system involves establishing clear responsibilities and oversight mechanisms for Party officials at all levels.
These initiatives highlight a continuing commitment to strengthening Party discipline and combating corruption across China, with officials emphasizing the need for vigilance and a proactive approach to maintaining public trust. New Gansu reported that officials are being urged to implement the spirit of the recent plenary sessions and to deepen the fight against corruption.
