Beijing – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi outlined Beijing’s vision for global cooperation and a “community with a shared future for mankind” during a press conference on Thursday, March 7, 2025, as part of the ongoing Two Sessions meetings. The remarks come as China seeks to project stability and offer a counter-narrative to geopolitical tensions.
Wang Yi emphasized the importance of nations working together, stating that President Xi Jinping’s concept of a shared future aims to encourage countries to transcend differences and protect the planet. This idea, he explained, reflects both China’s historical traditions of inclusivity and the internationalist spirit of the Communist Party.
“President Xi Jinping has grasped the major trends of history and stood at the forefront of the times, proposing to jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind,” Wang Yi said, according to reports from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “It advocates that countries rise above various disagreements and differences, jointly protect the only planet that humans can inhabit, and jointly build a global village with a shared future.”
The foreign minister highlighted growing international support for China’s initiatives, noting that over 100 countries support the “Three Global Initiatives” and more than three-quarters have joined the Belt and Road Initiative. This increasing participation, he suggested, demonstrates a global desire for collaborative solutions. The Belt and Road Initiative is a global infrastructure development strategy adopted in 2013 to invest in nearly 150 countries and international organizations.
“History will prove that only those who embrace ‘everyone’ can truly be ‘winners’,” Wang Yi stated, as reported by Xinhua News Agency. “Working together towards a community with a shared future will make this world a world for all countries and make the future a future for everyone.”
The emphasis on a shared future comes amid ongoing global challenges and increasing competition between major powers. China’s messaging aims to position the country as a responsible stakeholder committed to multilateralism and peaceful development. China Daily reported that the Two Sessions meetings are focused on setting a course for continued growth and stability in the novel year.
International media are closely following the Two Sessions, with many outlets highlighting the potential for China to play a constructive role in addressing global issues, as noted by Guangming Online. The meetings are seen as an crucial platform for shaping China’s foreign policy and its approach to international relations.
