The institute forecasts rainfall between 30 and 60 millimeters per hour, or 50 to 100 millimeters per day, along with wind gusts reaching up to 100 kilometers per hour. Flooding is a significant concern.

The alert covers portions of Minas Gerais, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Rondônia, Amazonas, Pará, Ceará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, and Sergipe. The entire states of Bahia, Tocantins, Piauí, and Maranhão are also under alert.

The heavy rains are being caused by the formation of a cyclone, according to Meteored. This comes as Brazil continues to grapple with the aftermath of severe weather events.

Safety Recommendations from the National Institute of Meteorology

Minas Gerais has been under heavy rainfall warnings for days. According to g1, there have been 69 fatalities, including 63 in Juiz de Fora and six in Ubá. Two people are reported missing in each city.
