The Cimahi City Health Office has confirmed 16 positive cases of measles out of 155 suspected cases recorded throughout 2026. According to Mulyati, the Head of the Cimahi Health Office, these figures are an accumulation of reports from several hospitals within the Cimahi region.

Speaking on April 6, 2026, Mulyati clarified that the patients treated in the city were not exclusively local residents, as some individuals from other regions as well received care in Cimahi. While all 16 confirmed patients have since recovered, the data has highlighted a concerning trend regarding preventative care.

Vaccination Gaps Identified

A primary concern for health officials is the immunization status of those infected. Of the 16 confirmed cases, 15 patients had never received the measles or MR (measles-rubella) vaccine. This finding underscores the critical importance of maintaining consistent vaccination schedules to prevent the resurgence of vaccine-preventable diseases.

The current immunization protocol involves administering the MR vaccine when an infant is 9 months aged, followed by a booster at 18 months. Further protection is provided to children between the ages of 5 and 7 through the School Children Immunization program. Mulyati noted that these services are widely available at hospitals, community health centers (puskesmas), clinics, and independent midwife practices.

This update underscores ongoing public health challenges, as even areas with high overall coverage can harbor pockets of vulnerability. Although Cimahi’s complete basic immunization coverage exceeded 95% in 2025, officials warn that the community must remain vigilant to close remaining gaps in protection.

Prevention and Symptom Awareness

Measles is highly contagious and spreads through droplets released when an infected person coughs or sneezes. To mitigate the risk of transmission, the health office advises the public to practice clean and healthy living habits, including routine hand washing, adhering to proper cough etiquette, and avoiding close contact with symptomatic individuals.

Common symptoms of measles include:

  • High fever
  • Cough and runny nose
  • Red eyes
  • The appearance of white spots inside the mouth
