Coco Gauff Defeats Cocciaretto at WTA 1000 – Results & Next Round

# Coco Gauff, the top-ranked American in women’s tennis, defeated Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the second round on Tuesday night. The victory came after Cocciaretto had previously eliminated Latvia’s Darja Semenistaja in the first round.

Gauff entered the match as a heavy favorite, with bookmakers offering odds of 1.18 for her to win.

The first set saw Gauff fall behind 3-2 before losing the remaining games. In the third set, the American found herself trailing 0-2, but rallied to break Cocciaretto’s serve three times and secure the win.

Gauff won 77% of points on her first serve compared to Cocciaretto’s 62%, and held a 98-89 advantage in total points. She converted 5 of 14 break points, even as her opponent managed 4 of 8. The ace and double fault count was 2-11 for Gauff and 4-4 for Cocciaretto.

Gauff now leads the head-to-head series 4-1.

This marks Gauff’s seventh year competing in Miami, with her best results being three quarterfinal appearances (2022, 2024, 2025).

Gauff will face American Alicia Parks (#105) in the third round.

# Canada’s Victoria Mboko (#9), Italy’s Jasmine Paolini (#7), and American Amanda Anisimova (#6) also advanced on Tuesday night. Anisimova defeated Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic (#81) in a three-set match, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.
