Cold Snap: Winter Returns to Italy Mid-Week ❄️

A late-season cold snap is threatening parts of Italy, potentially bringing wintry conditions to the Adriatic coast mid-week. The shift comes as many anticipated the arrival of spring temperatures.

According to weather models, a surge of cold air originating from the Balkans is moving toward Italy. Temperatures are expected to fall 4–5°C below the seasonal average.

The Adriatic side of the country is expected to be most affected by the cold front. There is also a possibility of snow at lower elevations in central Adriatic regions, according to early reports.

The development is notable as the Adriatic region reflects the broader challenges facing the fragmented Balkan area, where economic disparities are significant. The economic output of Italy’s Adriatic regions is considerably higher than that of the entire Balkan region, including Greece and European Turkey.

Italy maintains strong historical, cultural, and geopolitical ties to the Adriatic-Balkan region, making developments there a matter of national security, according to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
